Welcome

20 students and their leaders Robin and Tulsi are currently in Japan, returning on July 16. During the 3 week trip, the students will explore Japanese traditions, connect with local students, and form lifelong friendships. They will be welcomed by Japanese Rotarians, who will serve as hosts throughout the stay.
Participants will explore major cities in southern Japan, including Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara, with a dedicated visit to Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and Museum. The group will primarily stay on Shikoku, an island comparable in size to New Jersey. Each student will have the unique experience of living with a different host family in each of Shikoku's four prefectures. The group will return to New Jersey on July 16.
Incoming Trip
On July 31, 20 students and their leaders from Japan will arrive in New Jersey. They will be staying for three weeks, departing on Wednesday, August 20. They will stay with different host families and will visit historic, cultural, sports, and amusement locations in New Jersey, New York City and Pennsylvania. Much of the time is spent touring as a group. There will also spend time with their host family visiting local attractions and learning about American lifestyle.
This program offers participants the opportunity to learn about Japanese and American culture through the hospitality of local families and communities. Unlike traditional tourist experiences, the exchange creates deep cultural understanding and meaningful connections.

Host Family Responsibilities
Host families are an important part of the exchange experience. As a host family, you will gain firsthand experience with a different culture, language, and perspective, broadening your understanding of the world.
The students are paired by gender and each pair will stay with a host family for about one week each:
Week 1: 7 nights, 5 group days & 2 family days
Week 2: 6 nights, 4 group days and 2 family days
Week 3: 5 nights, 2 group days and 3 family days
On group days, you will provide breakfast and then drop the two students at one of the bus stop locations listed above. The students will spend the day visiting the day's scheduled events and attractions. At the end of the day you will pick them up at the same location and learn all about their adventures at your evening meal. On family days, the students are with you for the entire day so you can plan activities and show them your community.
Host families are responsible for meals, accommodations, activities, supervision and care. We will conduct a webinar for all hosts families to outline the details of hosting and answer all of your questions. An online application and background check is required for adults 18 years or older.
Students may share a bedroom, but must have separate beds. You may request males or females. FYI, we have 14 girls and 6 boys on the trip.
Host families with high-school students are encouraged but it is not required. Non-Rotarians can also serve as host families.
This exchange program with Japan is almost 50 years old. During that time, it has had an impact on thousands of students and families. Please consider being part of the program as a host family You will not regret your decision!
